The perfect time to blow bubbles outside is 9 to 12 degrees. Add a drop or so of food coloring and blow bubbles up into the air (gives them time to freeze). Some will break on the ground like an egg or some will form crystalline patterns. It’s best to find a spot out of the wind. And if you can suspend a bubble on the bubble wand, it will freeze in front of your eyes. Great science experiment for kids!
Basic Homemade Bubble Solution
1 cup water
2 T light Karo Syrup or 2 T glycerin
4 T dishwashing liquid

I keep referring to “this moment” because things can change quickly. We are doing our best to comply with the local county health departments, while maintaining the privacy of our students and staff. A message from the CDC about schools during this pandemic.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/reopening-schools.html

On behalf of the educators out here...this next quarter (but probably longer) starts a new chapter in public education. There is a huge learning curve that students, teachers, and district administrators will be navigating, yet again, together!
As we embark on this thing called “Return to Learn”, we are asking our Facebook friends to refrain from publicly scrutinizing their children’s administrators/teachers/schools/district for the way they are teaching, the lessons they’re assigning, or the decisions the districts are making. Instead, we ask you stand up for educators if you see this negativity on your timeline.
Please offer grace to your child’s teacher and other school personnel. I promise that educating & keeping your children safe is still their #1 priority. ❤️ They are about to navigate uncharted waters with little idea in what to expect. They love your kids and will be doing their absolute best!
🤍💻📝📌📎🖊📓📚🧮➗🖍➕🎨🎼🏃🏽♀️
Please copy & paste if you are a teacher ... or support teachers.
And fellow educators, YOU’VE GOT THIS! I believe in you! We are all in this together! I support educators!

This is a general supply list for junior high and high school students. Some teachers may ask for different items. However, this should give you a good idea of core supplies. Grades 7-12 will be issued a Chromebook. Insurance on each device is required. If you need assistance with supplies or require a hardship plan for insurance, please contact the school office for assistance.

Elementary supply lists for 20-21. We understand families make individual decisions about purchases. If there is something you chose not to buy, we will work around it. No student will be reprimanded for not having the complete list. If your student needs a little extra help, contact the elementary office starting August 3rd. Thanks and have a great July!

Come Join Us! Verona is planning to hold summer school starting June 15-July 14 with hours 8:00-3:15, Mon-Thurs. Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30. Every student will need to provide their own water bottle with their name, community water fountains will not be available. Students will be able to refill bottles at school if needed. We will work on staying safe and washing our hands regularly. Also, no one will be allowed at school with a fever. The only field trips able to be planned at this time is “possible” trips on Thursdays to the Aurora pool, pending park procedures. We will be focused on covering content lost or weakened due to the closure of schools 3 months early. If you have not enrolled your students, please call the offices Tuesday between 9-2.

Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020, families that qualify for free or reduced price meals at school may be eligible for a new one-time Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) of up to $302 per child (Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 12) to help cover the cost of meals students have eaten at home on days that schools have been closed. Students can receive P-EBT benefits even if they have been or continue to receive meals provided by the school district during the school closure. If your child was not previously eligible for free or reduced price meals, but you have now lost income, you may be eligible to receive P-EBT benefits (review the P-EBT Eligibility Criteria document below).
The benefit is placed on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card families use to buy food. If you received Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits in March, do not apply for these new/additional benefits. The full $302 will automatically be loaded to your existing EBT card. If you did not receive Food Stamp (SNAP) benefits in March, you must apply for this benefit by June 30, 2020 (see below).
The most efficient way to apply is to submit your application online at EmergencyMealSurvey.com/MO. You will also likely experience a faster approval process.
The Department of Social Services (DSS) will send families a letter indicating they are approved or denied. If you have questions on how to apply for the P-EBT benefit, contact DSS through the online chat feature at mydss.mo.gov or call 855-373-4636. For more information on the EBT card, visit: mydss.mo.gov/food-assistance/ebt.

Elementary Family; May 7th between 10:00-1:00 you may come to the school to pick up any supplies left and the final work packet. The last day of school is the 19th, so teachers will be using the packets, Google classrooms, Seasaw, ScootPad, email, texts, and phone calls through the 19th to continue student learning as much as possible. This is not how we envisioned the last month of school back in August; however, I appreciate how hard teachers and students have continued to work together to keep learning important. If your student hasn’t gotten on ScootPad yet, I encourage you to help them get set up. The program is individually designed instructional paths created based on their winter NWEA scores. It’s an excellent tool for students to stay on the proper curriculum path. We still hope to have summer school, the district will make plans (possibly into July or early August), details will come out when the direction is clearer. Hope to see you on the 7th. Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Hello Verona Elementary Families,
Students will be receiving or have received work packets in the mail. When Governor Parsons announced the closing of Missouri schools, districts had to consider how to handle grades and regression. All students have some form of regression over the summer, meaning they lose some of what they gained over the school year. Our current situation won't be a month or two of regression, but possibly up to four and a half months of regression. We stopped grades with 3rd quarter; however, learning opportunities must still be provided by districts. Which is why teachers are mailing home packets and trying to reach students through technology. Our purpose now is to provide parents with grade level expectations, and to stem any regression we can. There will be no grades given for any work completed. There is no expectation for you to return work to the teacher; unless the teacher has contacted you personally. We are all in uncharted waters; the best we can hope for is everyone to have some learning opportunities and to stay safe and healthy. We will send more packets home at the beginning of May to finish up the school year. There are still no answers over summer school; however, it is a hope we will be able to hold it. If you have further questions, please call the school at extension 503. I check my phone messages daily, or email mwhitehead@veronar7.net.

Thursday night at 7:00 ABC will be airing a Disney Family Singalong!
Have fun singing with your family!

March 26, 2020
Dear Parents and Staff:
As promised, we have continued to work closely with the Lawrence County Health Department and other area schools to monitor concerns related to COVID-19 and the implementation of a suitable timeline for a safe resumption of school. After collaborating with those mentioned above, we have determined it will not be safe to return to school on April 6th as previously planned.
Therefore, at the recommendation of the Lawrence County Health Department and in conjunction with other area school districts, Verona Schools will extend the wellness closure through Friday, April 24. We will reevaluate circumstances at that time and, if cleared by the Health Department, would plan to resume classes on Monday, April 27.
The extension of this closure includes all extra- and co-curricular activities including practices, competitions, programs, and events.
In order to better comply with guidance from the Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all Verona campuses will be closed to all non-essential employees and all community patrons. All offices will be closed. You may call any of our campuses and leave a voice message which will be checked daily by building administrators.
The District will continue to provide meal service Monday through Thursday to those who need it. We are in discussions with Apple Bus Company to use our school buses to transport meals. Meals will be available for pickup at the high school entrance from 11:00 - Noon.
If you want to be added to the meal list, please call one of the school offices and leave a message. Also, please remember to practice social distancing when picking up meals.
As this unprecedented situation continues to evolve, we will do our best to provide additional information as needed. We would continue to encourage you be vigilant in your observations of social distancing recommendations and crowd size limitations to ensure this closing does the greatest amount of good in slowing the progress of COVID-19.We hope and pray that you and your family are healthy and we want you to know that our District is here to help if your family is in need of support.

March 26, 2020
After careful consideration and thoughtful discussions with local public and private school administrators in Lawrence County, the Lawrence County Health Department has concurred that all schools in Lawrence County close until April 24th. Please understand, this was not a decision that was taken lightly and we understand that this will create hardships for many families and maybe even leave some angry. However, we believe that by implementing these closures, we can help slow the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).
These are new, unchartered waters. Even though Lawrence County currently has zero cases, we have several community members being tested daily and have to be realistic that it will only be a matter of time before it reaches our communities. We are a small county which means we have smaller resources of staff and medical providers. Slowing spread can help control overburdening our clinics and hospitals as well as our health department who conduct disease investigation if it arises.
We ask for your patience and cooperation during this difficult and overwhelming time. We are ALL in this together and our goal is for everyone to stay healthy.
Sincerely,
Janella Spencer, RN, BSN

Hello fourth grade. Here are some links to get to the lessons.
Look in the comments on the facebook post!

Buenas noches, familia Wildcat!

Good Evening Wildcat Family!
Our staff was busy today making plans to support our students through learning opportunities on-line. Students can access these through Google classrooms, our district app, and the website. I'm sure there are other venues not mentioned, teachers will reach out to their specific classes.
Coaches have been in contact with families, but to be sure there are no questions; MSHAA has halted all games and practices while the district is closed (for more information, if needed, visit www. mshsaa.org).
All 3 district offices will be staffed from 10:00-2:00 Monday-Thursday through the closing. Let the district know if you are interested in the "Grab an Go" for your students.
Please call if you have any questions or concerns about the situation we find ourselves. 833-402-9580
We are in this together, and we will be stronger for it.

Buenas tardes Verona Familias!

Good Afternoon Verona Families! We are working on plans to continue offering free breakfast and lunch to our students. We will offer grab and go style breakfast and lunch beginning tomorrow, Wednesday March 18th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The meals are free to any child between the ages of 1 and 18. The child must be present to receive the meal. In other words, you cannot send a child or an adult in to pick-up the food for the group. The meals must be picked up by the child for which it is intended. We understand that for students living outside the city limits, meal pick-up may not be an option due to transportation issues. In this case, we are offering meal drop off to those students traditionally on our bus routes. Meal drop off will be done by volunteers. Therefore, we ask that you only request drop-off delivery if it is your only options. The drop-off procedure is similar to the pick-up procedure in the fact, that students must be present at the drop-off location to receive meals. Please call Verona High School if you plan to participate in the free breakfast and lunch service during this time of unexpected school closure. Meals will be offered Monday – Thursday from 11 to noon. The meal package will include lunch for the day and breakfast for the following morning for each child. You must call the office to let us know how many children in your household will need a meal package and whether you will be picking it up or need it delivered. Call 1-833-402-9580

Hello Wildcats, Verona school district will be closing effective March 17th through April 2nd at the recommendation of the Berry Lawrence Health department and in conjunction with the Department of Education. District personnel will reevaluate the situation on April 2nd. We take this step with heavy hearts, but must take proper steps to ensure the safety and well being of our students and staff. We will be reviewing options to provide "Grab and Go" meals; more details will follow tomorrow. The expectation from the state level is the district continue to reach our students in an educational manner. Elementary students will come home with some items to work on, along with staff using on-line sources to reach students. Please be patient as we develop this plan. All grade level staff will meet tomorrow to cement the on-line educational interaction that we hope to achieve. During this unprecedented time we find ourselves, we will focus on the positive that we are doing our best to keep our Wildcat family safe. School will dismiss today March 16th at 3:45, like normal.

Verona R-VII School Families,
As the information and guidelines about the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, continues to change daily, I wanted to let you know that our team of health professionals and District administrators continue to monitor this fluid situation to ensure the safety and health of our students and staff. Decisions made will be made with the most up-to-date information.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Coronavirus is a large family of viruses with common symptoms like the flu which include a fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Flu activity typically peaks during the winter season, and most of the population is at a much greater risk of contracting seasonal influenza than coronavirus.
Awareness
The District continues to work with our partners at Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the Jasper County Health Department as they monitor and manage the current situation with both the flu and novel coronavirus. The Missouri DHSS has developed this helpful fact sheet and has a website dedicated to information about this new illness. The CDC also provides resources and information about the coronavirus at www.cdc.gov
Cleaning and Disinfecting Our School
We are taking additional measures to keep germs at a minimum including taking extra time to disinfect surfaces, encouraging good hand-washing with students, and a deep-cleaning of our buildings is scheduled on our Fridays off.
Tips for Staying Healthy
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Cover your nose and mouth with a sleeve or a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw away the tissue.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
Stay home when you are sick.
Students with acute respiratory illness are recommended to stay home and not come to school until they are free of fever (under 100° F) and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines such as cough suppressants.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as phones, toys, and doorknobs, especially if someone is sick.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and/or after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
We will stay in-touch if the situation in Verona and/or Southwest Missouri changes. Our students and their families are always our first concern.
